ABOUT US

Empowering the financially marginalised

The LSESU Microfinance Society was founded in 2015 to further the aim of Microfinance: empowering the financially marginalised. We achieve this in two ways. In 2022, the society decided to expand its scope to the wider field of financial inclusion, and was therefore rechristened as the LSESU Financial Inclusion Society.

Firstly, we serve as a platform for students to engage in critical discourse about Financial Inclusion. We provide a four-session crash course in Michaelmas Term to give students a comprehensive introduction to the concept of Microfinance. We explore novel ideas and contentious issues in the world of microfinance by hosting talks and panel discussions with renowned professionals within the sector. We also provide information sessions for graduate placements and internship opportunities in Microfinance.

Secondly, we enable students to take action through the Impact Consulting Division (ICD), our student-run consultancy arm. Through the ICD, students work in teams to provide financial inclusion institutions with pro-bono consultancy services. By conducting in-depth research, students develop insights and solutions to support the meaningful endeavours of financial inclusion institutions across the globe. Through these projects, students stand to learn valuable consulting, fundraising and project management skills, as well as gain an incisive look into the work of financial inclusion Institutions. We have collaborated with institutions from all over the world, including Rangde, DEKI, Manav Sadhna and LendWithCare.

Join us for a wealth of opportunities to learn and make an impact!
